Trig K and Falls - Pelorus

Thursday 23rd May dawned fine and crisp and by the time a 10 of us arrived at Pelorus carpark the early morning fog was lifting, We were in for another perfect day.

We all set off and the group divided at the Trig K turn off and 8 headed up the reasonably steady and at times steep climb towards the trig. 2 of the party, carried on up the flatter track up to the picturesque falls.

The Trig K track took us through very pretty beech forest, and we climbed slowly and steadily with spectacular views over the fog in the valley towards Rai Valley. The track is well formed and with the usual beech tree roots ensuring we chose our footing well.

Because it is fungi time of year, we were all keeping our eye open for the array of fungi popping through the leaf litter now that there is some more moisture in the ground. Some beautiful clusters of fungi abounded, sadly no idea of their names. Where is Rebecca when you need her?

Half the party chose to descend the same way they went up and the rest of us carried on around the longer loop track back to the carpark. As one of those following the Loop track, I was delighted with the well-formed and relatively smooth track meandering through beautiful dappled light and the beech forest.

All the parties arrived back at the café reasonably close to each other and enjoyed a well-earned coffee and ice-cream.

Gazetted track times were generous and while we were in no hurry, the longer trail (including a lunch break) only took 3.5 hours.
